The majority of tokens I find these days are game tokens from places like Aladdin’s Castle and various pizza joints with giant rats or cringeworthy animatronics. Here’s a nice selection of mostly modern tokens, including tokens for a restroom, car wash, parking, a president’s token from a Cracker Jack box, a rolled souvenir penny from Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens (Deerfield, MA), and a $1 gaming token from the Golden Nugget Casino in Vegas.
Cracker Jack Mystery Club
The presidential tokens were a promotion for the Cracker Jack Mystery Club (1933). Made of aluminum, they didn’t fare well under the turf.
The back reads: JOIN CRACKER JACK MYSTERY CLUB SAVE THIS COIN.
One joined the club by sending in a certain number of coins (number changed several times). Joining earned a member a certificate and gift.
San Antonio Transit Company
This brass bus token, good for one full fare, is slightly smaller than a dime. The privately owned San Antonio Transit Company took over bus operations in San Antonio, TX, between 1942 and 1959.
Was glad to see this one turn up. At one time I had a small collection of various San Antonio fare tokens that I’d found, as well as a few others from different cities.
