Who, exactly, are they looking for?

"Our honorees have made their mark globally, but their backgrounds are rooted locally, having either been raised in Texas, developed a significant portion of their body of work in Texas, or supported the arts in a way that made a significant impact on arts development in our state," said El Paso gallery owner Adair Margo, who is co-chairing the 2011 awards with San Antonian Alice Carrington Foultz.

Past winners bear out that description. They include Sandra Cisneros, Walter Cronkite, Naomi Shihab Nye, Vikki Carr, Lyle Lovett, Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Rauchenberg and Bill Wittliff.

The categories are: Architecture, Arts Education, Craft, Dance, Music, Literary Arts, Visual Arts, Theatre, Film, Media/Multi-Media, Lifetime Achievement, Foundation Arts Patron Corporate Arts Patron and Individual Arts Patron. Awards will not be given in every category.

Past winners include Walter Cronkite, Lyle Lovett, Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Rauchenberg and Bill Wittliff.

March 1 is the nomination dedline. Criteria and nomination forms are available on the trust's Web site.
