I need a blessing and can’t afford to not pay it forward… so here ya go… Hey you…yea, I mean you. If you have taken a minute to read this… God has seen YOU struggling with something. God says its over. A blessing is coming your way. If you believe in God send this message on, please don’t ignore it, you are being tested. God is going to fix two things (BIG) tonight in your favor. If you believe in God… drop everything and re-post it. AMEN!

I responded:

I don’t recall ever having an imaginary friend. I have pets. Right now, I have a cat. Cats make decent pets. I’ve had dogs, too, and really enjoyed them as pets. When I feel life’s struggle, the cat curls up next to me. I forget about the struggle. The cat doesn’t tell me my struggle is over – it’s just friendly. Sometimes it meows when it wants food or to go outside. I feed it or let it outside. This enough for me. I don’t pretend an imaginary friend is promising the world to be something better than it is. I understand some people do that, but I’d rather just have the cat.

Seriously, though – the one and only true omniscient and omnipotent being, creator of all, wants you to send chain mail and retweet on its behalf.

Those damned artists! How can we raise brainwashed automatons who do our bidding with all that dancing going on?

Lady GaGa

I noticed an abundance of messages the other day decrying Lady GaGa. Apparently one of her videos has ruffled feathers. Now, there’s a call to protect our children and for revolution!

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS!!! PLEASE WATCH THE CURRENT LADY GA-GA VIDEO THEN LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN CHANGING AMERICA….FOR THE PROTECTION OF YOUR CHILDREN!!!! LEARN TO SAY NO….TAKE YOUR POWER BACK…..YOUR CHILDREN NEED TO RECEIVE THAT POWER IN GUIDING THEIR LIVES . POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS DEATH….START A REVOLUTION!!!!

Seriously? We need to protect our children from Lady GaGa? There may have been a compelling argument to protect our children from Michael Jackson (or at least those spending the night at Neverland), but the idea that we need to protect our young from the popular musicians of the day is some pretty worn out rhetoric. Besides, it’s too late. Elvis (indecent freak!) effed everybody up, as predicted by those who opposed him a few generations back. And before him, it was someone else – perhaps one of those godless commie swingers, like Benny Goodman. After him it was – oh let’s see, AC/DC, Metallica, Madonna…the list goes on and on (and on). Didn’t I leave out the entire 60s? The long-haired hippie freak bastard Beatles, Stones and well, you get the point.

Proven fact, it’s too late. Artistic expression kills – not war, not greed. It’s pesky things like the Bill of Rights and toe-tapping that destroys life as we know it. Those damned artists! How can we raise brainwashed automatons who do our bidding with all that dancing going on?

What really struck me about this call to arms was the vagueness. My request for a link to view the video in question was squelched by the head revolutionary’s refusal to provide such a disgrace. Gosh – I guess I should just assume that it’s not even fit for MY consumption. Why it’s so bad, parents shouldn’t be allowed to see it. OMG!

Shucks, I can’t even tell you the nature of the controversy. All I know is that unless we protect our children from Lady Gaga, the world as we know it will come to an end, which seems to have failed to happen this Saturday (the Rapture was scheduled for May 21st? Something like that.) Apparently Gabriel’s watch is broken. Good thing GaGa is the anti-christ! Wait – did we want the rapture or not want the rapture?

Anyway – I can tell you this: Suggesting that the youth of our planet need protection from Lady GaGa is offensive to me. I don’t even care that much for Lady GaGa and I’m offended. At best this call for arms is moronic fuddy-duddery. At worst – it’s fascism. Lady GaGa is just being Lady GaGa. If her ditties didn’t move people in some way, and her videos didn’t inspire or intrigue, no one would know who she was. It’s her artistic expression that makes her palatable, and valuable.

That said, I took a closer look, and after doing so concluded that the young lady in question is just that, a young lady. She may glam things up to Nth degree, but she also writes her own lyrics, donates to causes she believes in, and advocates on the behalf of others. The more I look, the more I see that I like.

The repression of expression is far more dangerous than the expression of ideas.

I even watched a video and read some lyrics in an attempt to learn what had these folks frothing. There was the expected attempt at shock and awe imagery, as well as some lyrics suggesting we accept ourselves and others for who we are. That has people’s PIAB? No – it can’t possibly be that.

You folks who try to repress your children’s interests, restrict their ideas, and even go so far as to support the removal of the arts from the curriculum would best heed this tidbit: you really can’t control what kids think, because they spend most of their time feeling, not thinking. Without creative outlets, children (and adults) explode. They go postal.

Music, dance, painting, drawing, writing, rapping, acting, sculpture, all of those things are necessary outlets (we can safely draw the line at tagging your Beamer – provided the kids have access to an art class). The repression of expression is far more dangerous than the expression of ideas.

If you feel an urge to protect your children from the latest pop star of the day, you may just want to have a good long look in the mirror. Or much better yet, put on a tune that you like, and tap, hum, sing, or dance along. And leave the rest of us (including your kids) to choose the tunes that move us (and them).

In Her Own Words

I started making jewelry out of recycled objects at the age of twelve. Years later I was in Tanzania. It was an exciting trip. I had seen my first elephant, hippo, and leopard in the wild, and even a black mamba that our guide had grabbed by the tail, spun in the air, hit on the ground and knocked out.

In the village I ran across a very attractive mud hair tribesman. He wore an arrow necklace fashioned from a printed steel can that cut into his skin and stood straight out from his neck. Through a translator I traded a pair of mirrored sunglasses and some copper wire for the necklace. His mother made the trade, cutting the necklace off him. Oops – he pulled his spear on me! But we were okay in the end; she promised to make him something new. This was my first exposure to printed tin and aluminum jewelry. I wish I knew where that piece was. But I did find the spear the man pulled on me. His mom traded that for a battery operated radio.

The project consists of 4500 unpaid volunteers, elves who help bring the spirit of Christmas to others. It’s a great project, and there’s opportunity for you to be involved if you’re interested. The experience is well worth the time. You may want to make it a tradition.

I think my cell phone camera sucks, but it has higher resolution than my first pricey Sony digital camera – you know the kind – they wrote to floppy discs. Heard of those? The floppy was wider than my BlackBerry and could store a whopping 1.44 MB of data. Woot! That was the shizzle back then. I prefer Canon these days, but often don’t lug one around. I still have about 1,000 old floppies in a box in the garage. All the recoverable data will probably fit on one CD. I’m debating on whether to throw it out, or see if there are some old gems hiding there. But none of that has anything to do with this post. Here are 5 pics of things I took with my phone while wandering around recently.

No Smoking Ashtray

Hey fellas, let’s hire a contractor, order one of those really expensive ashtrays, keep it painted nice and spiffy, regularly fill it with that fine sand, oh – and put a “No Smoking” sign on it.

Location: Local Air Force base

Blood Bag Candy

Why there’s nothing more appetizing than a bag of blood! Mmm… blood bag candy! Gotta have it! The best thing about this candy is that after it lands you in a diabetic coma, you wake up in familiar surroundings. You know, if you survive. Just kidding – but it’s great preparation for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse.

Multi-function TASK chair

Wow! What an amazing multi-function task chair. You can do so many things in this chair that you can’t do in any other average office chair, like sit. You can also, well, sit and spin (just a guess) – perhaps lean back a bit, and because it has rollers, you may be able to roll a little. Awesome!

Location: Office supply store. They also had a featured stapler that had “Amazing new spring-loaded technology.” What staplers aren’t spring loaded?

Bimbo Donitas

This may not be news to you, but it turns out that bimbo is not only slang for a woman regarded as vacuous or having an exaggerated interest in her sexual appeal, “BIMBO is synonymous with quality, trust, tradition and authentic Mexican flavor.”

Location: Local grocery store, between the bins of butter and the bins of breakfast sausage.

Rubber Chicken in a Bikini

Yep, that’s a rubber chicken in a purple polka dot bikini – a bargain at any price.

Location: Local grocery store, pet food aisle.
