Fear of Flying

“It is silly when you think about it. It was just a metaphor for how she makes me feel. I think she didn’t want responsibility for my feelings at all, even good ones. Poetics can be dramatic. Anyway, I guess she doesn’t make me feel things, just I’m reminded often when I’m around her that I’m special. Being with her feels right.”

“Maybe she didn’t want to be up on a pedestal. Does she always make you feel special?”

“No. Sometimes she says and does things that hurt my feelings. I’m sure I do the same. Neither of us mean to hurt one another. It just happens. Do you think it’s silly to talk to the wind or the ocean?”

“Do you talk to the wind and ocean?”

“Yes. And the sky, too.”

“Do they ever tell you to do things?”

“Nothing like that. More like meditation.”

“I pray to God and meditate. I believe he listens. He would listen to you.”

“How much do I owe you?”

He left the office and went on his way.
